Would a person be considered a pattern day trader if not using a margin account?
The government defines a pattern day trader as someone who makes more than four day trades from a margin account in a five day period. If a person does not use a margin account but uses only the money actually in his/her account, would he still be considered a pattern day trader?
The reason I ask has to do with the $25,000 minimum required as a “pattern day trader.” If not technically classified as a pattern day trader, might one day trade with less than $25,000?
do you believe in stock pattern?
I am a trader, I had some speciality recognizing a pattern from stock. It’s not by the book. It’s unique. For example I found a stock which if the 5min charts and 30 min charts convergence in specific time frame the success rate of getting $1 is 90%.
I found 3 stocks each with different pattern and I enjoyed it so much as I earn $100-$200 per day with 90% success rate.
Do you believe some stocks had a price pattern that not by the book but applicable in trading?
Because I found it like magic and I couldn’t fully believe it yet.
Does the pattern daytrading rule apply to retirement accounts, like an IRA?
Just labeled as a pattern day trader and was told I may have a daytrade margin call next day?
I bought 2 positions on Thursday and sold them both on Friday to buy another stock. The stock I bought today, I sold later on in the day thinking this is my first roundtrip daytrade in over a week (the rule is 3 roundtrip daytrades per 5 days for accounts under $25K). I go to buy another stock which I was going to hold over the weekend and got a message for insufficient buying power. What the heck? I called them up and was told i have to wait till Monday to see what the call is for and possible restrictions? I was totally lost. Am I now not allowed to trade for 90 days if my account is restricted? Or will they change my account to cash from margin? Please help.
